How to: Set Up a Date Distribution Rule

A Date Distribution Rule lets you define the distribution of budget values between date periods. By using the Date Distribution Rule, the total budget value in the Retail Sales Budget will be automatically distributed among the date periods according to the assigned Date Distribution code.

To set up a Date Distribution Rule

  1. Click the icon, enter Retail Budget Distribution List, and select the relevant link.
  2. Click New to create a new Retail Budget Distribution.
  3. Fill in the Code and Description fields.
  4. In the Distribution Type field, select Date. The default value is Date.
  5. Select the relevant distribution calculation in the Type field. The default value is Equal:
    • Equal - Distributes an amount equally between the date periods.
    • Proportional - Distributes an amount based on the distribution of the existing values among the date periods.
    • Curve - Distributes an amount based on manual weight assignment or a distribution curve from Lifecycle Curve.
  6. If you have the Type field set to Curve, the fields under the Date Distribution Settings group will be visible. Fill in the No. of Periods field if you want to manually define the weight of each period. This value determines the number of periods over which the budget distribution spans.
  7. You may fill in the Lifecycle Curve Code field by selecting the relevant item distribution over date periods from Lifecycle Curves if you want the system to help you to populate the Date Distribution Lines based on the assigned Lifecycle Curve. To set up a Lifecycle Curve see How to: Set Up Lifecycle Curves for more details.
  8. Click the Create Lines (Date) action to create the Date Distribution Lines based on the defined No. of Periods or the assigned Lifecycle Curve. If a Lifecycle Curve is assigned, the Weight and % Share for each date period from the Lifecycle Curve Lines will be copied over to the Date Distribution Lines or else the number of Date Distribution Lines will be created according to the defined No. of Periods with Weight defaulted to 1.

Note:You can use the Calculate Date Dist. Curve action in Retail Sales Budget Lines to help you to capture the existing value in the budget and fill in the Weight fields in the Curve based Date Distribution Lines. For more information see How to: Edit Sales Budget Entries.
